The Baltimore County Council
The County Council is divided into 7 districts of roughly 108,000 residents each. The Fourth (4th) district was created 8 years ago as a majority minority district after the 2000 Census count. It encompasses the Liberty Road communities, Woodlawn, Lochearn, Milford Mill, Windsor Mill, Randallstown, Granite, Woodstock, Reisterstown, and the New Town and Painters Mill areas of Owings Mills.
This year 4 of the 7 seats may likely be open to new leadership, that is, if the incumbents in Districts 1, 2 and 6, as planned, seek different offices and the incumbent in District 5 retires. The race for the fourth district seat is contested. However, I ask for your support in winning the fourth district seat, and help create 5 new seats come January 2011. This is a difficult season in which to govern and legislate. The economy remains sluggish and unemployment stalled making this a jobless recovery. In such circumstance residents need experienced hands on deck willing to bring a fresh perspective, and willing to engage those whom they represent.
My reasons for running for the 4th District seat are to bring a new level of commitment and leadership to the district, to fight for the fourth, and help county government work more productively for residents. I promise to work hard for residents, be prepared, and be present; and to engage and connect with residents and work closely with the district’s many community and neighborhood groups.
Residents of the district are concerned about a number of issues including but not limited to, vacancies in shopping centers and malls all over the district which affect the level of available services; an increasingly diverse county population and its effect on classroom learning and achievement gaps in schools, unemployment, housing, zoning and environmental issues, and the need to enhance public safety.
